Sohns was founded in 1907 by J.A.A Sohns as a music store selling instruments and sheet music. When the "Victrola" was introduced it was added to the product line. This later gave birth to the radio.
Charles E. Sohns, son of J.A.A, entered the business after his graduation from Walden High School at the young age of 15. Under Charles the business grew steadily adding televisions and appliances along the way. The first television set was shown by Sohns in 1939. At this time it was only a prototype.
Charles' son Jeffery entered the business full in 1962 upon his graduation from college. Many expansions have taken place since Jeff has been here, making Sohns one of the Hudson Valley's largest independent appliance out lets.
John Sohns, the fourth generation, entered the business in 1989, after his graduation from Marist College. In 2002 John Sohns was appointed President of Sohns Appliance Center. He looks to continue the great legacy that his Great Grandfather started over 100 years ago.
