Sparks! Unusable. This is what our beautiful Cafe Microwave looks like 2 years later. Trying to get GE to replace and they offered us a new one for $900, so don't know what I am going to do now, absolutely do not buy this. We also bought the double drawer dishwasher, and that has had to have a repair man come out twice. I feel like a fool for making my husband buy these.

We have this Cafe microwave oven in our vacation home and we are experiencing the same arching and sparking that others here have mentioned. We chose all GE Cafe upgrades as part of our new construction, all installed around March 2025 when we closed on our condo. We have only occupied and used the Microwave for about 6 months in the last 14 months of ownership. We are very concerned about the fire risk and damage to the unit. We are highly disappointed in the durability of this GE product failing after minimal useage. As others have mentioned this defect is in the rear left corner, which appears to be a consistent defect that could result in a fire hazard. This is jot the quality expected from GE.

Very disappointed with this microwave drawer for the price we paid. After only 24 months, it started sparking inside. The problem is the wheel on the right side of the drawer ™" it rubs against the wall of the microwave every time you open and close it. Over time, this wears off the paint and exposes the bare metal underneath, leaving a black mark and causing sparks. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a common problem and a defect, not just bad luck with my unit. I expected much better quality from GE Cafà at this price, and I do not recommend this model.

We have had our microwave installed a year and half ago, all appliances changed to GE cafe.This week our microwave started arching and burned a tiny hole in the left rear corner of the microwave (where the wheel rubs). We purchased some cavity repair paint, and a new microwave heat shield, still arching. I see this is such a common problem with this brand and style. Model CWL112P2R1S1

Not worth a dime. Avoid at all cost. Like EVERYONE who has used it for more than a year, it's sparking and burning in the back corner where it rubs. Ours started sparking a little after 1 year of use.
Fire danger aside, it does a terrible job heating evenly. The center will burn to a crisp and anytime on the outer edge will still be cold. Can't even cook popcorn in it without it burning or you have to stop it after the bag is only half popped. We've honestly come to the conclusion that no microwave at all is better than having this microwave.

Purchased August 2024. Just started sparking and am having the same issue as everyone else. Right drawer wheel is black and there is a black stain on the back right wall. This is a major fire hazard. How is there not a recall on this product. For such an expensive product, I would expect more than 2 years usage.

After 3 years our microwave finish has rubbed off in the back corner where the roller hits it. It is now sparking during use. I expect better quality for this pricey microwave. This is our second cafe appliance and i have had issues with both. I would not recommend. They are poor quality and overpriced.

Works great but controls would be better facing up some so you don™™t have to bend over to read the buttons. Why have 2 buttons for open and close when you only need one. Drawer closes roughly with a big clunk and shakes cabinets.

My microwave caught fire twice and had to replace it twice now! This microwave model has a known defect the wheels coating wears away exposing the metal which then sparks a causes a fire to happen. It is such a hassle to get it replaced as well even though it™™s a known defect to this model. I am on microwave number two and will never purchase this again.

Just like others, our microwave is defective. Just after 3 years, our microwave sparks from a small area of bare metal that developed in the back right corner. This is a widespread issue and I expected better quality from GE Cafe for the high price.

The microwave starting arcing. We have the extended warranty. Tech came out and said the main components on the inside are burnt up. Of course the warranty company Allstate is going to try and fix instead of replace. Parts back ordered. Going on week 3 no microwave. I expect it to last longer at this price point. It wasn™™t even used heavily!

This microwave was installed in our home in January 2023. The drawer wheels scrape the paint off the interior cavity walls during normal operation, exposing bare metal. This causes electrical arcing (sparking) when the microwave is in use, which is a fire hazard to my family and our home.
I attempted to repair the issue myself using spray paint specifically designed for microwave cavities. The paint continues to wear off because the drawer mechanism keeps scraping the interior walls every time the microwave is used. There is no permanent fix short of replacing the unit. We have since stopped using the microwave due to the safety risk.
We contacted GE and they sent a technician to our home. The technician confirmed the unit is "not serviceable" and cannot be repaired. His notes state that the drawer itself is scraping the paint from the interior wall of the cavity. The product is destroying itself through normal use.
Despite their own technician confirming the defect and that it cannot be repaired, GE has only offered a discount on a replacement. For a premium appliance at this price point, that is not an acceptable resolution.
I am not the only one experiencing this. A quick look through these reviews and online forums shows numerous other owners reporting the same exact issue. GE is aware of this problem.
If you are experiencing this same defect, you may want to consider filing a report with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at saferproducts.gov and contacting the consumer protection division of your state Attorney General's office.

I have really enjoyed this microwave, up until recently. I love how big it is and how even it heats food. The popcorn button is my favorite. However, the magnetron stopped working before it was even 2 years old. While the part is under warranty, it still cost $133 just to order the part since Bodewell will not order the part without first sending a technician to "assess" the issue. Labor is not cover which is fine, but a 2 year old product at this price point should not stop working and then cost $350 to get it working again. 4 of my 5 my GE Cafe appliance have all had one issue or another. This micro is too expensive to only last 20 months

The controls should be lit up. ours is installed in the island. We have to literally bend down, with a flashlight in order to see the control functions. Very poor design. otherwise it works like any other microwave.

Love this microwave. Used it a number of times and it heats food evenly. It easily fits a dinner plate, a serving dish and a shorter casserole dish. Using the features is intuitive. The touch screen for opening and closing is really a great feature. Having a drawer makes placing and removing food easy and so much safer than an over the range microwave. This fact makes the higher price for a drawer microwave worth it.

We love the oven, the touch control and ease of operation. Two months into the use of the new oven, the door started getting stuck, sometimes it opens in a bit, other times I need to put a hand to open it.
We reached out to a service partner, to learn that this is a known issue and a part needs to be replaced. The part is back ordered for few weeks now, and we are unable to find a replacement.
The door gets stuck, doesn™™t open few time, and there are chances of the hand getting stuck. I personally do not recommend this product and the service to others.

purchased this microwave about 18 months ago for nearly $2,000, expecting a high-quality appliance that would last for years. Unfortunately, the unit has already started arcing (sparking inside the microwave KNOWN ISSUE BY MANY) during normal use, which is both alarming and unsafe.
When you pay this much for an appliance, you expect reliability and proper support. However, when I contacted warranty support, I was told contact GE, leaving me with an expensive microwave that is essentially unusable after such a short period of time.
For a product in this price range, this level of durability and customer support is extremely disappointing. A microwave should certainly last longer than 18 months without a serious safety issue like arcing.
I would strongly encourage the manufacturer to stand behind their products and improve both product quality and warranty support. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this microwave.

I had to submit a review under a different email since the site will not allow me to submit a follow-up email letting others know that GE is NOT owning the manufacturing defect.
As a follow-up to my review 10 days ago about the sparking in the back left corner of the inside of the GE Cafe Drawer microwave...a Bodewell rep came to my home and determined the microwave is not repairable. I was assigned a Customer Relations case # for a resolution. GE offered to replace my SPARKING / ARCING microwave for $500! So, I paid $1800 for the microwave 1.5 years ago, had to have the electrical board replaced after 6 months, and not it needs to be replaced entirely because it is a FIRE HAZARD. There are at least 100 other identical complaints on this website alone with the EXACT same issue, yet GE will not take responsibility for defective manufacturing! DO NOT BUY. In the interim, if my house burns down, there will be major lawsuit bc I am not paying $500 to replace a microwave that should have lasted more than 1.5 years. SHAME ON GE. In the meantime, since my original review 10 days ago, several more people posted identical reviews.

Our microwave was delivered on May 28, 2024 and we did not install it for several months because we were renovating. Just a few months after installation, in January 2025, the motherboard failed and needed to be replaced. Now (February 2026), the microwave is sparking in the inner left corner. This is clearly a known problem with this make/model based on the number of reviews with people having the same exact problem. Why is this not a recall? This product should be replaced immediately, as it is a major safety hazard.

Just like everyone else on the page, have had the microwave for 2 years. Sparking issue started when under warranty and created a black spot in the back right corner. They came out and replaced the magnetron saying it would fix the issue, which it did for a couple months. But started again and the wheel fell off last week so I called them to come check it. They deemed it unrepairable now since the mark is in the back, which was there the first time they came, when it was under warranty. Now they claim they cannot help me out and replace the device, even though we've had issues since we bought it. AWFUL customer service. Told me I could buy a new one.

the microwave was installed in a lower cabinet space as most are these days. the display doesn't turn upward so you are forced to squat down to se the controls. the heat on the microwave doesn't compare to most. takes twice as long to heat things relative to my prior microwave

Just like all the other one-star reviews, at less than 2 years old, my microwave arc's in the bottom left corner, and the wheel also fell off. It was deemed unrepairable, and GE customer service is like "Oh well!" There is clearly a manufacturing defect in a batch of this model. Now this model is over $1800 to replace.....NOT A CHANCE. Buyer Beware!

This microwave has been installed for a year with moderate use and is arcing. The microwave is clean and food is covered during use. The right-side wheel of the drawer mechanism is out of alignment and has scraped the interior, causing the arcing. This is a common issue with the microwave, based on other reviews of this appliance. Is there a remedy from GE? Has anyone had any luck with repairs?

We recently remodeled our kitchen and decided to splurge on this microwave drawer for our island. I had heard mixed things about them, but I never expected it to be this bad. After only 13 months of light use, the back right corner started sparking.
I called GE, only to find out my warranty had expired just a month earlier. They offered to waive the service fee, so I agreed to have a technician come out. The tech barely looked at the microwave™"he seemed to immediately recognize the issue as a common problem™"and quoted us around $600 to fix it.
I declined the repair because it™™s outrageous that such an expensive appliance would need such a costly fix so soon. Until GE improves the quality of this product, do not gamble on this microwave drawer unless you have money to throw away.

We liked our microwave until the wheel fell off and it started arcing in the back left. Of course it is out of warranty by two months. Called the service company and all they could do is send a repair person to look at it but said just need to replace our $1600 microwave. Come to find out, I should have done my due diligence and looked at reviews because this is a common problem. The pressed in wheel falls off. About the arcing - not sure if it was caused when the wheel fell off and scratched the paint. This completed our set of these appliances.

Microwave has worked great since we bought in 2023, until a week ago when the unit turned itself on and continued to run until I pressed open door. Then as soon as the door closed it continued to run itself. Pressing cancel and off wouldn™™t do anything. I didn™™t input a time or run it myself.
The microwave door was also repeatedly, weirdly, bumping over and over while it was running™ short movements back and forth, hitting into the unit.
Ultimately I had to turn off the breaker for it to stop. Then I had a GE worker come to service the microwave, only for him to tell me my warranty is up and I need a new microwave. He was here for less than 20 minutes and they charge $133. Not to mention his attitude when I was trying to understand the issue. Something to do with a fault in a back roller / wheel of the door. He said he wouldn™™t recommend a drawer microwave, they have more issues.

Pretty annoying since this is a known issue and all they needed to do was to google it and see that many people have had the same problem due to poor design.
